By Nabeela Irfan – 10 Blogging Mistakes I Made as a Beginner (and What I Learned)

When I first started my blogging journey on Blogger, I was super excited but also made many mistakes that slowed my growth. Here are 10 mistakes I personally made, so you don’t have to repeat them:

1. Choosing Random Topics Instead of My Passion

In the beginning, I posted whatever came to my mind – from daily thoughts to tips. This confused my readers and my blog didn’t grow. I realized picking a clear focus/niche was essential.

2. Neglecting Backlinks

I didn’t know the importance of backlinks at first. Once I started linking my posts to relevant blogs and getting other sites to link to mine, traffic and credibility improved drastically.

3. Ignoring My Own Voice

I tried to imitate popular bloggers instead of sharing my own experiences. Readers connect with authentic stories, not copied content.

4. Posting Without a Schedule

Initially, I posted whenever I felt like it. Some weeks had 3 posts, others none. This inconsistency hurt my readership. Now, I follow a weekly posting schedule, which keeps readers engaged.

5. Not Using Visuals

My first posts were text-heavy. Adding images, graphics, and screenshots later made my content more readable and attractive.

6. Not Sharing My Blog on Social Media

I thought posting on Blogger alone would bring traffic. Sharing on LinkedIn, Facebook, and groups increased visibility immensely.

7. Ignoring Feedback from Readers

At first, I didn’t respond to comments. Once I engaged with readers, they became loyal followers and even helped me improve content.

8. Not Tracking My Blog Analytics

I used to post blindly without checking which articles worked. Learning Google Analytics helped me focus on content that readers actually loved.

9. Expecting Overnight Success

Blogging is a long-term game. Initial slow growth made me doubt myself, but patience and consistency changed everything.

10. Underestimating the Power of SEO

SEO seemed complicated, so I ignored it initially. Learning simple SEO basics made my posts discoverable by the right audience.

Takeaway: Every blogger makes mistakes. The key is to learn from them and keep improving. I shared these mistakes so you can save time and grow faster.
